Field testing of our radio kits were conducted this fall and were completed several weeks ago. The FieldHawk Single and Dual radio kits met all our mandatory specifications and expectations.
FieldHawk Single - Short Range Wireless Cable Replacement The FieldHawk Single kit is a cable replacement sytem for your total station. Our tests were conducted with a Sokkia SET 530R instrument and various data collectors. In all tests, consistent wireless connections were achieved with no interruptions. The extra freedom you get by not having a cable connected between your data collector and surveying instrument is definitely a big benefit. Once you get used to it you never want to use a cable again. FieldHawk Dual - Long Range Wireless Connection The FieldHawk Dual kit was tested using a Leica 1200 robotic total station. Consistent connections of up to 400 meters were achieved and there with no apparent slow down in shot time or remote operation of the instrument. In one particular field test we were measuring across a field that had a lot of vegetation (small brush) and tall grass. In situations were there was no clear line of sight between the total station and data collector the connection would get dropped. This week we are running several cold weather tests to see what the effects of cooler temperatures are on the FieldHawk radios, with the main concentration of our testing focused on the batteries.
