AA NiMh batteries only have an output voltage of 1.2 Volts DC. So the effective total voltage supply is 4 times 1.2 volts for a total of 4.8 volts. While our Bluetooth radios are very efficient with power consumption, they require 5 - 12 Volts to function properly. This is why we use an internal 6 Volt battery.
