During normal use you will find that you don't always need a "line of sight" between the radios if working in relatively close proximity, for example less than 200 meters. At greater distance, line of sight is more important and for long shots greater than 400 meters you will have to ensure you have line of sight between the radios.
- Try to place the radio on the instrument facing the direction you will be surveying in if you need to take long measurements.
- If working in low shrubbery or grassy fields, mount the radio high on the pole for better visibility between the instrument and prism pole.
- Since you have a wireless connection between the radio and data collector, you don't always have to place the radio on the pole. For example you could place the radio in line of sight with the instrument but walk with the data collector and prism pole to the shot point. As long as you maintain a Bluetooth connection between the data collector and radio you can work this way.
